Top 10 Highest Grossing Indian Movie So Far



The Indian film industry is raking in moolah like never before. 2015 started off with the Aamir Khan - Anushka Sharma starrer PK, which was released in December 2014, grossing Rs 337 crores in the domestic market alone and Rs 740 crores, world wide. With mega hits coming in, this year has already got its share of super grossers.

Here is a list of the top 10 grossers of 2015 so far :



Baahubali: The Beginning – Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannah, this mammoth production directed by SS Rajamouli, has broken the glass ceiling in South Indian cinema by being the first South Indian film to enter the Rs 300 crore group. Released worldwide on July 10th, the film, which is the first half of a two part magnum opus, has grossed approximately Rs 350 crores worldwide, and is still going strong.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns – The sequel to the 2011 film, Tanu Weds Manu, the part two received raving reviews, with Kangana’s much talked performance in a double role.Made with a budget of Rs 30 crores, it became one of the highest grossing films in the history of Indian cinema, earning Rs 252 crores gross at the end of its theatrical run.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan – His hit and run conviction notwithstanding, Salman Khan managed to continue his golden run with his Eid release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Directed by Kabir Khan and starring  Kareena Kapoor Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the seven year old debutant child actor, Harshaali Malhotra, this emotional drama earned Rs 175 crores in its first four days. The film, which hit cinemas on July 17th, collected Rs 50.89 crores gross earnings internationally, bringing the total gross earnings to Rs 226 crores, so far.

I –This Tamil romantic thriller film directed by Shankar, known for his larger than life productions, raked in big money at the box office. The film stars Vikram as a body builder and a hunchback, a demure Amy Jackson and Suresh Gopi as the villain. While the film received mixed reviews, it managed to pull crowds into the theatres and grossed Rs 245 crores. The film released on 14 January 2015 and was shown in 3,500 screens.

Kanchana 2 –  Directed by Raghava Lawrence, produced by him and with him playing a dual role in it, the horror comedy film Kanchana 2 may seem to be all about him, but that did not stop the cash registers from ringing continuously. Made on a budget of Rs 12 crores, the film grossed 122.5 crores and was shown at 1,450 theatres. The film, which released on 17 April, 2015, also had a Telugu version titled Ganga which was released on 1 May 2015.

ABCD 2 – The 3D dance based movie, Anybody Can Dance 2, traces the journey of a group of dancers from Mumbai’s suburbs to Las Vegas for a competition. Directed by Remo D’Souza and starring Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhu Deva and Varun Dhawan in lead roles, ABCD 2 is the sequel to the 2013 movie, ABCD. The movie released on 19 June, 2015 and was declared a super hit. The film entered the Rs 100 crore club, grossing  Rs 105.74 crores globally.

Baby - The Neeraj Pandey directed espionage film, Baby, starring Akshay Kumar, was the first film of the year to enter the Rs 100 crore club. While it made Rs 95 crores in India, Baby earned over Rs 10 crores overseas to bring it into the club. This is also Neeraj Pandey’s third film and his highest grosser so far. Released on 23 January, 2015, the film was made on a budget of Rs 60 crores and was produced by T-Series with Friday Filmworks, Crouching Tiger Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Hope Films.

Gabbar is Back: Another Akshay starrer to join the 100 crore club, action drama film, Gabbar is Back is a remake of the 2002 Tamil Film, Ramanna. The film, which stars Akshay Kumar and Shruti Hasan in the lead roles, has been directed by Krish and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The film grossed around Rs 86 crores in the domestic market and Rs 18 crores in the international market, bringing the worldwide collections to upwards of Rs 100 crores.

Piku – This quirky comedy drama, directed by Shoojit Sircar, revolves around a father and daughter relationship. Featuring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan in the lead roles, the film was a critical success and had a successful run in India and overseas. Piku was made on a Rs 35 crore budget and released on 8 May, 2015. The film grossed Rs 111 crores worldwide.

Dil Dhadakne Do – Made on a whopping Rs 86 crores budget, this multi-starrer directed by Zoya Akhtar, failed to make a mark in the domestic circle, earning only Rs 76.88 crores. The film has an urban theme and its business was primarily dependent on the multiplexes in metros and the bigger cities. The worldwide collections, though, stand at Rs 147 crores.
